| Type | What's matched | Example |
|---|---|---|
| People | Name, email, company, notes | "Jennifer" finds Jennifer Westbrook |
| Companies | Company name, notes | "Pinnacle" finds Pinnacle Properties |
| Projects | Project name, description | "redesign" finds Website Redesign |
| Captures | Title, content, resolved content | "permit" finds captures mentioning permits |
| Tasks | Title, description | "proposal" finds "Send revised proposal" |
Type "west" and you'll find "Westbrook." You don't need the full name or word.
"jennifer", "Jennifer", and "JENNIFER" all return the same results.
"henderson kitchen" narrows results to captures mentioning both words.
Use Views for recurring searches. If you find yourself searching for the same subset of connections often (e.g., all clients in a specific project), create a View instead. Views are saved filters that persist across sessions.
Search and Ask rivo serve different needs. Here's when to use each:
| Use Search when… | Use Ask rivo when… |
|---|---|
| You know what you're looking for — a specific person, capture, or task | You have a question and need rivo to find the answer across your data |
| You want to navigate quickly to a specific record | You want a summary, briefing, or analysis |
| "Find Jennifer Westbrook's page" | "What are Jennifer Westbrook's biggest concerns?" |
| "Show me captures about the permit" | "What's the current status of the permit application?" |
Rule of thumb: Search is for finding. Ask rivo is for understanding.
Search from any list page. The search bar is available on both Connections and Captures pages. Results are scoped to what makes sense for that page.
Clear titles make search better. When your captures have clear, descriptive titles (which rivo generates automatically from extraction), search becomes much more powerful. Specific titles like "Call with Tom re: kitchen timeline" beat generic titles like "Meeting notes."
Can't find what you need? Try Ask rivo instead. If you're searching for a concept ("what did we discuss about pricing?") rather than a specific record, Ask rivo understands natural language and can surface the answer.
